The Wexford Panthers U11 Girls continued their strong tournament play with
a strong showing in becoming the Collingwood Invitational Champions. The
Panthers opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Orangeville. It was
their first 11v11 game and the team performed extremely well taking
advantage of the extra space on the field. The second game was against a
strong Flamborough squad. The Panthers quickly went ahead 3-0 which was
all they needed to win their second game. The final group game was against
a new Sault St. Marie team who fought hard, but was undermanned in the end.
The Panther’s won 7-0. The first play-off game had the Panthers play
Orangeville again and while Orangeville played hard, the Panthers went on
to the finals with a 5-1 victory. The final game was against Flamborough
and was very close on the scoreboard. The Panthers had many chances, but
the Flamborough defence would not break. There was no score after
regulation time. The teams went on to play extra time with the game being
decided by a late goal with only seconds left before a shoot-out.
Congratulations to both Flamborough and the Panthers for an exciting
final!!!
